Recovery is THE most important part of playing sport and the one mode of training that is often ignored or neglected by most sports participants particularly runners.

Any form of exercise is just the stimulus but if your body hasn’t fully recovered from the effects of that session, then you won’t be able to perform to the best of your abilities either in your next training session or chosen sport activities. Ultimately, failure to recover sufficiently on a regular basis will eventually lead to your body breaking down with potential serious consequences such as major injury or illness.

Recovery can be split into different categories comprising of recovery training, treatment, sleep/rest and nutrition with each having its own merits for being the most important component within the framework of performance.

Here at Optimal our main emphasis is placed on recovery from sports/activities particularly from injury and our services reflect this philosophy. Failure to recover fully from an injury, particularly a minor one, will potentially lead to a more serious or severe level of injury further down the line which ultimately will lead to you missing your sports or activities.

Recovery Training sessions – A good devised planned recovery session incorporating flexibility work, foam rollers and bands to help reduce fatigue is a must for anyone who takes their sport seriously. Recovery work is fundamental in maintaining strength levels, flexibility and for flushing out the toxins from the body following any strenuous activity. This training will also incorporate injury rehab exercises if necessary.

Treatments – Sports massage, Deep Tissue massage and Dry Cupping all contribute to deal with knocks and minor injuries from hard training sessions, a match or an event and will help the energy systems within the body recover by improving blood circulation and ridding the body of toxins that build from intense exercise.

“Normatec” Recovery Trousers – The less evasive and hands-free treatment available. Sit on a bed with a full leg length legging over each leg as it inflates and compresses each section of your legs in a regulated cycling affect to relax your muscles and recover a healthy blood supply. Comprises different settings for time and level of compression to meet individual’s requirements.
